About the Scholarship

Andre Rene Chery was a devoted father of four and a faithful member of First Haitian Free Methodist Church. He led with love, taught adult Sunday school, founded the church's men's choir, and served joyfully wherever he was needed. His heart for the next generation was especially evident—he even started a ministry that delivered supplies and prayer to college students from the church. He served as a school bus driver for Stamford Public Schools and developed meaningful relationships with the students and families he served. He was known for constantly going the extra mile to make sure his students were safe and often came home with a variety of gifts from families wanting to express their gratitude. He kept a seat at his table for anyone who was interested and would often bring food to feed his coworkers. Everyone was family to him and he rarely missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand.

Andre believed that faith should be lived out through service. Whether encouraging a student, supporting a family in need, or serving within his church community, he consistently demonstrated what it meant to put others before himself.

To honor his life and legacy, the Andre R. Chery Legacy of Service Scholarship was established to support students pursuing higher education while encouraging a commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.

Through scholarships and student support initiatives, we seek to continue the work Andre began—investing in the next generation, uplifting future leaders, and reminding young people that they are seen, valued, and capable of making a difference in the world around them.

Every donation, sponsorship, and purchase made in support of this scholarship helps carry that legacy forward.
